It’s no secret that overdrive pedals are a necessity and staple of worship guitar tone. I have played a ton of different ones over the years and thought, hey, why don’t I do an all time favorites list of our favorite overdrive pedals. I have to give you a heads up that this list is not exhaustive. I have played a ton of great overdrives that could and should be included on this list. I have also not played a number of overdrives that could or should be included on this list. My goal with this list is to give new to intermediate level guitarists a good idea of the top overdrives out there and I based this list on a variety of different factors including: number of guitarists using them, tone, price, company reputation and oh yeah… my opinion! Just found this article and thought I’d ask a quick question.
I’m just transitioning to Electric and am still finding my tone. Currently, I have a FD3, Timmy and Hustle Drive (OCD type pedal). I’m using an Atomic Amplifire (one of the latest top-shelf modelers, comparable in amp tones to a Kemper or Helix) and tend to prefer the Vox type tones. My guitar is a slightly modified Fender Tele Thinline 72 RI.
How would you recommend stacking these?
My thinking was to use the Timmy as a light first stage OD followed by the FD3 in 90’s (TS) mode for second stage gain for lead (to emphasize the mids). I’m still playing around with where to place the boost (afterwards for a volume boost for solos? Before so I can saturate the TS some more?)
I could never seem to bond with the OCD style pedal, the high end seemed too harsh on the HP mode and too dull on LP…
Thanks for providing these resources!
